This is a translation for convenience. The German version and the insurers' policy terms prevail.

Which operations are there?

Aesthetic surgery covers a broad spectrum of procedures. The following applies to all of them: the statutory health insurance fund (gesetzliche Krankenkasse) does not cover any costs in the event of a complication. Follow-up cost insurance (Folgekostenversicherung) is therefore strongly recommended.

Checklists

Before you have a cosmetic procedure carried out, structured preparation is worthwhile – both for you as a patient and for the conversation with your doctor. The German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Plastisch-Rekonstruktive und Ästhetische Chirurgie, DGPRÄC) has developed official consultation aids (Beratungshilfen) for all common procedures, which you can download free of charge as a PDF.

These checklists help you to ask the right questions, to assess risks realistically and to go into your operation well informed. Follow-up cost insurance additionally protects you should complications arise despite careful preparation.
