Stiftung Warentest & complication insurance: is there a test?
Stiftung Warentest has not yet carried out a test of complication insurance. Gehling Consulting has therefore prepared its own independent comparison.

Has Stiftung Warentest tested complication insurance policies?
Stiftung Warentest is Germany's best-known consumer organisation and regularly tests insurance products. To date, however, it has not carried out a dedicated test of complication insurance (Folgekostenversicherung) for aesthetic operations.
The market is comparatively young – only a few providers exist at all. Gehling Consulting has therefore prepared its own comparison, based on the Stiftung Warentest methodology.
Is there an Öko-Test on complication insurance?
Öko-Test has likewise not yet tested any complication insurance policies. When it comes to insurance, the renowned consumer magazine has so far concentrated on motor, household contents and health insurance.
What does the Verbraucherzentrale say?
The Verbraucherzentrale (consumer advice centre) generally recommends:
- Obtaining comprehensive information about the risks before cosmetic surgery
- Since statutory health insurers do not assume follow-up costs, examining private cover
- Being particularly careful with operations abroad
- Paying attention to the surgeon's qualifications
